Speaking of being irrelevant, the National Hockey League is in full swing.
I’m sorry folks, but I’m not Canadian and I don’t own a pair of skates, so I am not going to care about hockey enough to write about it. Right now some of you may be saying, “He is dead wrong, hockey is the most exciting sport to watch, plus, the fights are great.” If I wanted to see two men box each other on the ice I’d pay Ed McMahon and MC Hammer ten bucks apiece to duke it out on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center.
vs.
My money is on McMahon
Alright, so football and hockey are out of the question. What about basketball?
Well, the New York Knickerbockers are garbage. Ok, so they are not absolute trash, (only a couple of games below .500) but they are still the Knicks. My, other team the Orlando Magic (don’t ask me why) are barely ever televised nationally. Even if they were, I doubt people attending college in Oneonta New York would give two expletives about the Orlando Magic.
Forget about professional basketball, what about college hoops? Well, I do like college basketball better than the pro game, but college basketball is irrelevant until March.
Soccer? Hahahahahaha...NO!
Now we come to my favorite sport: Baseball.
Ah, our national pastime. Green grass, stadiums that look like cathedrals, the crisp sound of a bat hitting a ball, the roar of the crowd. All of those things are two months away. Although most baseball fans take solace knowing that pitchers and catchers report in two weeks, I don’t. Sure I’m happy, but none of that matters until the regular season begins.
There are a lot of stories flying around baseball right now, there’s got to be something I could write about. Well to be completely honest with you, my valued readers, I could not decide what to write about.
Here are a few quick answers to the big topics of baseball’s off-season:
Mark Teixeira, C.C, and the Yankees spending spree-
Get over it people, the Yankees owners actually put the money they make back into the team. Fans of other teams can cry me a river.
Mannygate-
Where will Manny Ramirez end up? I care about this as much as Michael Vick cares about dogs. Manny is one of the most prolific right-handed hitters in baseball history but he doesn’t respect the game of baseball, so I don’t respect him.
Joe Torre’s book-
Haven’t read it
Oh well, maybe I’ll have something for you next week.
